Customer Review: Never got this unit to work properly.
I had high hopes for this burner, as I had used a VC20 unit at work, and never had a problem with it. The additional quality setting and PAL standard were all plusses for me when purchasing the VC30, HOWEVER, I never got a SINGLE video disc burned on the unit to play properly on my DVD player. I tried a dozen different brands of DVD media, in all formats…+/-R, +/-RW, DL, made no difference. Even with SONY brand discs…all became coasters. Huge disapointment.

Customer Review: PANASONIC AT ITS BEST
Overall, this is an A-/B+ player and recorder. First and foremost, it will play some burned dvds that my Sony players can’t. And where there are glitches (freeze-ups) when watching some burned dvds on my Sony dvd players, there are none when played back on the Panasonic. There are only two minor negatives for this model. There isn’t an eject button on the remote. And the fact that it takes approximately 30 seconds (from the time you turn on the power) to read and play a dvd-r. It takes approximately 48 seconds to read and play a dual layer dvd+r. Note that these read/play times were conducted with the disc already in the dvd recorder before turning the power on. I will never stray from Panasonic when purchasing my next dvd recorder. There is no reason to. They have the technology down and they produce reliable dvd recorders. At least, this is my experience with Panasonic model DMR-ES25.

Customer Review: DVD drive failed after 1-1/2 years
This served my needs for dubbing VHS to DVD, but the infamous U61 error (call your service center) appeared after only 22 months of usage. The unit will no longer play DVDs. So after paying approximately $280 for the unit, I basically paid $12/month before it died. Worth it? You be the judge.

i purchused this unit because my other sony unit rdr-gx315 died on me it’s going to be 400.00 plus to repair it. as far as i know sony does all recordings dvd plus and minus r both rw’s and both dl’s. i was told this unit is the update model from my old one so i will give it try again.
Customer Review: Worked Great for a Year
This was a great DVD recorder for a year. After 1 year the “welcome” message came on and never went back off. Even after unplugging it for days it still wouldn’t go off after I plugged it back in. No buttons worked even the power button didn’t work. I called Sony and they told me it would need to be repaired by shipping it to a service center thousands of miles away. On my dime of course. Funny thing is this unit died just months after the warranty expired.
